| Thematic mapping
of drainage systems |
 |
 |
Being able to gauge at a glance
the general condition of an underground hydraulic
system has always been the leading problem when
drawing up the situation in actual fact.
Since 1993 we have been proposing to our customers
the thematic mapping of the inspected systems
carried out thanks to programs directly and exclusively
elaborated by our technicians in collaboration
with an important Italian Company of ENI Group.
The computerized mapping of the system combines
the traditional ordnance surveys with the data
collection of the real state of the system inspected
from the inside through wire-guided telecameras.
As a matter of fact, the video inspection makes
it possible to gather a huge number of information
necessary to estimate thoroughly the real condition
of the concerned system, while the topographical
position even of the single defect or connection
enables us to aim at the centimeter (and at the €cent)
every maintenance intervention.
A written record, immediately readable in any
condition allows the supplier of an underground
system to know exactly the system route, the
position of every detail, the real condition
of the length, meter by meter, the existence
of hidden entries may be covered by the evolution
of surface structures (asphalt, building works,
etc..).

| We may consider the system mapping
as the historic memory of the television survey,
as the connection on site of the alphanumerical
data records. The exclusive procedure adopted
to map the inspected systems makes therefore
possible to systematically add the data of video
inspections to the mapping of surface structures.
Such data coincidence lets us evaluate the real
incidence of any future intervention on the system,
taking into consideration also any interference
with the situation on the surface. The computerized
mapping of the video inspection is an innovative
instrument able to locate e.g. hidden chambers
under the asphalt, bends without chambers, serious
breaks, water filtering, clogging even without
previous inspection of the area. The peculiar
chart adopted (according to ATV regulations)
enables also to visualize at once the observation
code (right connection or break at the bottom),
the metric position and the seriousness rating
(from one to five according to ATV regulations).
In practice, the mapping is the summary of
the data graphically positioned on the map
in a clear and immediate way. The reading in
full of the observations input by the operator
on site, the photographs, the profile of slopes
and the monographs of chambers are available
in the data records divided for each inspected
length.
Generally, mapping and data records are accomplished
by plotting one or more thematic maps, but
in some cases it is possible to give to the
supplier of the system/data, the managerial
software of the system.
As far as the written mapping is concerned,
we usually adopt the 1:500 or the 1:1000 scale
with two thematic version: a) map of the lengths,
chambers and all manufactures concerned with
the system on a detailed planaltimetric basis;
b) observation of the video inspection of lengths
and chambers on system basis. Of course, the
two thematic versions are personalized according
to specific needs, and are also able to plot
the mapping for recommended maintenance interventions.
The managerial software of the system (on CAD
basis) offers to the supplier himself the possibility
to bring up to date and thematize the data
files. The winding of new inspections or new
lengths of the system can be directly made
by the supplier. |

| What kind of activities
do we provide for? |
 |
> Ordnance survey and filing
of any manufacture relevant to the drainage system
(inspection chambers,
trap-doors, pumping plants, tanks, reservoirs,
etc..)
> Elevation survey of manhole cover and bottom of the pipe of the chambers,
essential for the calculation of slopes.
> Calculation of medium slopes of lengths of drainage system located between
two chambers of which the piping bottom elevation has been gathered.
> Survey through television inspection of piping connected to the system,
filing all building characteristics, deteriorations (breaks, leaks, filtering,
yielding, etc..) and connections.
